When Katy Perry refused to sing "Titanium" for David Guetta, she meant no disrespect for this iconic French DJ.Instead she wanted Sia (Sia Kate Isobelle), the blonde Australian songwriter who actually wrote "Titanium", to sing it herself.
Guetta approached many other singers including Mary J.Blige but the results were futile, either the songs leaked on the net or the output was not satisfactory. He then reverted back to Sia, who sang the ballad and ended up selling 7 million copies around the globe.
Released on the 8th of August 2011 on itunes music store,5 months before it's official release date on other digital download and streaming platforms.."Titanium" sold 4 million copies in the U.S, in less than 6 months of it's release.
Guetta would later reveal that different release dates were adopted to prevent the song from being leaked on the web.Even though his 2011 album Nothing But The Beat had Guetta collabarting with some of the big names in the music industry including Snoop Dogg,Nicki Minaj,Chris Brown,Flo Rida,Usher,Akon and Will.i.am...it was the lesser known Sia from Australia who contributed much to the album's commercial success.
However Without You (ft. Usher) is the only single from Nothing But The Beat to reach Top 10 in the U.S, when it reached the 4th spot in the Billboard Hot 100 U.S singles charts around September 2011, selling 2.6 million copies in that country.
On the whole, Nothing But The Beat received much of it's positive response from Europe, where it was certified platinum and gold in the U.S where it sold just over 500,000 copies.
