Carpenters - Gold(#ad)
Formed by Karen and Richard Carpenter, the Carpenters as they called themselves is an American vocal and instrumental duo.
Together, they produced a different and unique soft musical style that combined Richard’s arranging and composition skills and Karen’s contralto vocals.
The duo mostly sang pop music and soft rock and they always made sure they pinned a song to the wall and delivered their best.
The album that made the duo famous was Close To You which was a hit and two singles...one “Close To You” and “We’ve Only Just Begun” from the album made the Carpenters superstars.
“Top of the World” was written by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis and it was the first ever international country single that was released by The Carpenters.
The song was released in 1972, but it was late in 1973 that it became famous. "Top of the World" was originally intended to be an album cut and they didn’t see it having a lot of potential.
After it was covered by country music singer Lynn Anderson and the first release as a single it became famous. Her version of the song almost topped the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart by reaching number two.
The Carpenters version, on the other hand, was the Billboard Hot 100 number one for two weeks consecutively in 1973.
The song was remixed in 1973 for the single release because Karen wasn’t quite satisfied with her vocals in the original recording.
The song was then used as the ending theme song for Beginner a drama movie in 2003 and it was also used as the opening theme song for Miseinen a Japanese drama in 1995.
The song has more than 10 million views on YouTube as of now and still going. "Top of the World" is the second of three number one singles at the Billboard Hot 100 singles.

Album - A Song for You
Such a feelin's comin' over me
There is wonder in 'most ev'ry thing I see
Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes
And I won't be surprised if it's a dream
Everything I want the world to be
Is now comin' true especially for me
And the reason is clear, it's because you are here
You're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world
Somethin' in the wind has learned my name
And it's tellin' me that things are not the same
In the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze
There's a pleasin' sense of happiness for me
There is only one wish on my mind
When this day is through I hope that I will find
That tomorrow will be just the same for you and me
All I need will be mine if you are here
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world
