Scorpions - Send Me An Angel
1990 - The Berlin Wall demolition began.
1991 - The Cold War came to an end after years of political unrest & proxy wars.
In the midst of this wave of crumbling geopolitical & ideological barriers, came the Scorpions’ Crazy World album.
Released in 1990, this was the band’s 11th studio recording & remains till date their most successful album (more than 7M copies sold worldwide).
The album contains two of the band’s most iconic tracks – "Wind of Change" & "Send Me an Angel". Whilst "Wind of Change" celebrates the band’s inspirational 1989 trip to Moscow and has become a worldwide anthem of hope and peace, "Send Me an Angel" records a more personal inner journey.
"Send Me an Angel" is the last song on the album. There are various interpretations for this rock ballad – as the lyrics have various cosmological & biblical references.
It is almost a silent prayer to help one’s journey towards the ‘dawn’ of light, the ‘promised land’, in the face of opposition & hardship posed by many a ‘storm’ & ‘thorn’.
It is a guide to help one through a dark bleak period in one’s life & offers hope of a better tomorrow. The message is to trust one’s inner voice, listen to it and let it guide one through life’s turbulent winds.
No matter the intended interpretation set out by the band, this beautiful ballad remains one of the most soul-stirring songs, not only from the Scorpions, but of all-time.
The song is composed by Rudolf Schenker & written and sung by Klaus Meine. It was released as the album’s fourth single in 1991, with the emblematic angel’s burning wings image.
In 1994 heavy-metal band Black Sabbath released their seventeenth studio album Cross Purposes – the album had the same image of the angel’s burning wings from the single-cover of "Send Me an Angel".
This has been often discussed in music circles, but neither band has provided any clarification on the matter."Send Me an Angel" reached #8 on Billboard Hit Singles in 1991.
Klaus Meine was voted #22 on ‘Hit Parader’s Top Heavy Metal Vocalists of All-Time’ in 2006.
His almost perfect voice lends a powerful, yet soft, honest delivery to this track. He is one of the oldest members of the band, along with Rudolf Schenker, who started the band in 1965.
The Scorpions have sold more than 100 Million records worldwide. They started as a hard rock band from Germany, but their success has traversed the globe.
They completed 50 years of being a band in 2015. They are still performing and touring the world – their ‘Crazy World Tour’ dates for 2017 have been announced.

Album - Crazy World
The wise man said just walk this way
To the dawn of the light
The wind will blow into your face
As the years pass you by
Hear this voice from deep inside
It's the call of your heart
Close your eyes and your will find
The passage out of the dark
Here I am
Will you send me an angel
Here I am
In the land of the morning star
The wise man said just find your place
In the eye of the storm
Seek the roses along the way
Just beware of the thorns
Here I am
Will you send me an angel
Here I am
In the land of the morning star
The wise man said just raise your hand
And reach out for the spell
Find the door to the promised land
Just believe in yourself
Hear this voice from deep inside
It's the call of your heart
Close your eyes and your will find
The way out of the dark
Here I am
Will you send me an angel
Here I am
In the land of the morning star
Here I am
Will you send me an angel
Here I am
In the land of the morning star
