It was written by Steve and Will Jennings and then produced by Winwood and Russ Titelman. The amazing music vocals on the song were done by Chaka Khan who also appeared in the promotional music video.
"Higher Love" was Steve Winwood’s first single to make it to the Billboard Hot 100 number one hit and it topped the chart for a whole week.
The song also spent four weeks top of the US Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart. It also peaked up to number 13 in the United Kingdom being his highest charting solo hit in the country.
The song was such a hit such that it was nominated as the Record of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammys Awards and it won in both the categories.
The song was officially released in 1986. The video of the song was shot in June 1986 by Paula Greif and Peter Kagan who were the directors.
The same guys shot an almost identical video in November of that year and coincidentally, both the videos were nominated for several awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards even though neither of them won.
The music video has more than 4 million views on YouTube song was also used in GTA V the ever evolving computer games. Some of the players say that when the song played, this was one of their beast gaming moments.
