Lil Nas X - Old Town Road
(#ad)
As the song's title implies "Old Town Road" talks about the hardship and struggles that a common man had to endure down south,in a bygone era where cars don't exist and horses were the only means of transportation.
A comical song that with a deeper meaning, Billy Ray Cyrus sure did spice up the song with his cameo voice.
But it was the video sharing app TikTok that made this song go viral, with Lil Nas X drinking the 'Yee Yee Juice' while doing the 'Yeehaw Challenge'.
First released on the 3rd of December 2018, "Old Town Road" was climbing the Billboard Country charts with so much ease, that certain unnamed jealous Country artists wrote to Billboard, requesting them to remove the song from the Country charts, claiming that the song did not belong to the music genre 'Country' at all.
Shockingly Billboard condescended to the calls of these prejudiced artists and removed "Old Town Road" from it's Country charts back in March 2019, when it was charting at the 19th position, with the reason, that the song did not have enough rodeo music to be a proper Country song!
This decision of Billboard sent ripples across the music industry, with many artists openly supporting Lil Nas X.
Many fans questioned the veracity of Billboard's decision, citing past examples where white artists had gotten away topping totally unrelated genres, when Billboard turned a blind eye.
Some of these popular artists include Shania Twain, Post Malone and Kid Rock.
Shania Twain primarily a Country singer, had many chart topping numbers in the Pop, R&B and Soul genres , than in the Country genre.
Post Malone a Pop singer, has had quite a few no.1 songs in the Billboard Hip hop charts and Billboard never removed his songs, in spite of his own vehement confession, that he never considers himself as a Hip Hop Artist.
Neverthless, Billboard stuck to their biased decision, and a hapless Lil Nas X sent a SOS on Twitter, requesting Twitteratis to connect him with Billy Ray Cyrus.
Billy Ray Cyrus did come to the rescue of Lil Nas X and a remixed version of "Old Town Road" was released on April 5th 2019.
The song spent a record 19 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, shattering the records of "One Sweet Day" (Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men), "Despacito" (Justin Bieber and Louis Fonsi), becoming the longest running no.1 song in Billboard's 59 years of existence.
