Written by Michael Skolff and Alee Willis, the song made into the LP album in 1995 after being completed then topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for weeks.
In the UK, the track reached number two while the US ranked it number one. After a few years of being on the low, it became UK’s frequently played song in 2004 when the season finale of friends’ show was aired.
The American duo responsible for the keening harmonies, the Rembrandts together with the six main stars of Friends featured in the music video that was amusing, fun and generally entertaining.
The track’s message is an unconditional friendship with a promise of a forever which makes it very emotional and assuring.
When the short version of the track became popular, Charlie Quinn, the director of Nashville and Tom Peace, the music director created the full version and aired it on WYHY radio station.
The Goo Goo Dolls altered the lyrics and made their own version of this song which was rockier and up-tempo. However, in April 2004, the track found a spot on Blender magazine in the “50 worst songs ever” list.
Alvin and the Chipmunks band (fictional) used the song in their game while a few other talents parodied the track into various versions.
The soothing track has gone from theme song to an inspiring track played all over and gathering fans across the globe.
Unlike most rock songs, “I’ll be there for you” comes with a soothing ambient that is both empowering and simple. It has garnered over 3 million views on YouTube so far and it will continue to gather more as time goes.
