Pretty Woman (1990)(#ad)
Even if it is a 1990s movie, many still believe and enjoy watching Pretty Woman. According to one critique expert, since the movie is starred by Richard Gere, the most successful male actor and since his character is portrayed as someone that falls in love with a female prostitute, it is one astonishing movie that you will never expect it to be so innocent.
It is the sweetest and the most open-hearted fable of love since the film “The Princess Bride”. Here you will find a film that will march every audience along through the mean streets and into the immorality road, but then gradually glows with a lot of romance.
Plot
At the start of the film, Edward Lewis played by Richard Gere, accidentally wind up in the red light district of the city in Hollywood Boulevard. This happened after he broke up with his girlfriend during a phone call that was so unpleasant because it appeared that he was very controlling.
What he did was he asked her to go with him during one of his trips, but she got offended because it felt like she was treated like an extra in his life, not someone that he really cherishes. As he left the party, he took the luxury car Lotus Esprit of his lawyer and eventually encountered the prostitute Vivian Ward, played by Julia Roberts.
He stopped where she was standing, asks for directions for her on how to get to Beverly Hills. He was even seen having difficulties on how to drive the car. He asked Vivian to get in the car and guide him to where the Regent Hotel is because it is where he is staying.
Soon it became clear to Edward that Vivian knows a lot about how to drive the Lotus than he does, so he left it to her to drive the car. After arriving at the hotel, Vivian demanded $20 as a fee for driving him to the hotel then after that they separated.
She went to the bus stop to get a ride, but then Edward finds her there and offered to hire her for one night. During their stay in the night, he offered to Vivian the offer that got rejected by his girlfriend. Vivian will be paid $3000 for her stay for the next 6 days.
He even offered to pay for a more decent wardrobe for her in those days, too. In that same evening, Edward felt different, in a good way, when he saw Vivian’s transformation. He started seeing Vivian in a different way and begins to open up to her about his business and personal lives.
Edward then took Vivian to an event - a polo match hoping to get more networks for his own business deal. Edward’s lawyer, Philip, suspects on Vivian that she is a spy working for another company. Edward denied the idea and told him how the two really met.
A little later, Philip approached Vivian wherein he suggested that they do some business once the work she does with Edward is done. She got furious and insulted because Edward revealed their secret to him. She decided to end their arrangement.
Edward didn’t want to lose her so he apologized and has done a lot of things that was so unlike him. He admitted that he felt jealous when he saw Vivian paying more attention to a business associate than him during the polo match.
It showed how the straightforward personality of Vivian has rubbed off on Edward. Seeing how the situation has gotten them really involved, Edward decides to take Vivian into his private jet just to see the La Traviata, which is going to show in San Francisco.
Vivian was touched by the story of the opera, wherein a prostitute falls in love with a very rich man. After the show, they appear to be in love with each other. Vivian, sticking to her no-kissing-on-the-mouth rule breaks it, then Edward offered her to stay in an apartment so that she doesn’t have to be in the streets anymore.
This hurt her and refused the offer, saying that this is not the kind of fairy tale that she was dreaming of since she was a little girl, wherein a knight riding a white horse carries her off and rescues her.
As he was meeting with a business tycoon, Edward changed his mind. The time he spent with Vivian has shown him how to look life differently and then he suggested that working together is best for the company rather than tearing it up to pieces and sell it off.
The lawyer, Philip, furious of how things turned out and thinking how much money he has lost, he went to the hotel where Edward was staying but found Vivian instead. He blamed her for the change that happened with Edward, so he attempted to rape her. Edward saw the scene and punches Philip in the face and then throws him out.
Now that is LA business is complete, Edward requested from Vivian to stay another night with him, but she refused. Right at the end of the movie, Edward was rethinking about the life he lived, then tells the chauffeur to go to the apartment building was Vivian is staying.
He goes on to leap out from the sun roof of the limo and then rescues her. The scene depicts a modern take of how a knight riding a white horse Vivian was dreaming of.
