“Perfect Illusion” the lead single from Lady Gaga`s upcoming fifth studio album Joanne was recorded by Interscope records who released it as a 'digital download only format' on the 9th of September 2016.
Gaga partnered with Mark Robinson,Kevin Parker and BloodPop to write and produce this song.
This song generated mixed reactions among critics who felt that the song was similar many songs and tunes of Bruce Springsteen.
Many leading U.S and U.K newspapers including Huffingtonpost blasted Lady Gaga for 'çopy-pasting' Bruce Springsteen's '80s new wave disco vibes for “Perfect Illusion” and added that her infinite adulation for Bruce Springsteen is no excuse for copying his music.
Ruth Hogben worked together with Andrea Gelardin and directed a music video for this song which was released on 20th of September 2016.
The video was released during the premiere of season two of the series Scream Queens that aired on Fox Network.
Gaga had a change of management along with her manager Bobby Campbellto join Artist Nation which was a management division under the entertainment label Live Nation after releasing her third studio album Artpop in 2013.
In 2014, Tony Bennett, the American Singer, collaborated with Gaga to release a jazz record known as "Cheek to Cheek"
This release later went on to win the Grammy Awards as Best Traditional Vocal Pop Album. Gaga later confirmed that she was planning on releasing her 5th studio album in January 2016.
She went ahead to say that she was working on the arrangements and the look she wanted to feature for the album.
Over 2015 and 2016, Lady Gaga went on social media to release teaser of “Perfect Illusion” as well as other materials from her upcoming album Joanne including the recording process.
Reports claimed that she was working together with her former producer RedOne, Mark Ronson. Giorgio Moroder and Nile Rodgers for Joanne.
And this was later confirmed by Ronson who went on to add that the recordings he did with Gaga were some of the music he loved that he had worked on.
“Perfect Illusion” may not be Lady Gaga's best seller in the States but it did get a cool 100,000 downloads on iTunes store and Amazon music in it's first week of release.
It also gained more than 8.3 million streams on Spotify apart from debuting at the 15th spot in the all important Billboard Hot 100 charts.
The song reached the no.1 spot in some European countries including Belgium, France, Greece, Finland, and Spain.
“Perfect Illusion” also reached the top 20 chart position in a dozen other countries including.. Canada,Austria, Czech Republic, Australia, Italy, Lebanon, Hungary, Slovakia, Portugal, Scotland,U.K, Switzerland and U.S.
