Selena - Dreaming Of You(#ad)
"Dreaming of You" is from Selena’s fifth studio album Dreaming of You that was released on July 18, 1995, via the EMI Latin records.
It was produced by Guy Roche and written by Tom Snow with the help of Franne Golde. Originally written for The Jets band, Selena had music critics marvel at it's lyrical content and the ballad touch.
She talks about her feelings and the hope that her partner thinks of her and her version came out on top of Madonna and Paula Abdul’s version.
The more fame the track gathered, the more it scored a position in various charts. To top it all, it's airplay led to the Broadcast Music Incorporated pop Award and up until 2010.
The song had sold over 254,000 digital downloads, streamed over 788,000 times by 2015, and gathered over 20 million YouTube views.
The accompanying music video was posthumously released back in 1995, but Selena was not alive to see it's success.
Her untimely death was a major blow to the world, since she was shot by Yolanda Saldivar, who was not only her friend but was back-stabbing her, by embezzling money.
While trying to help her friend, Selena died from a gunshot wound inflicted by an ungrateful friend. She was a real-life hustler and a talented musician who caught the attention of EMI record label.
Her dance moves and sexy outfits made the public call her the Mexican Madonna and her career begun around the age of 10 where she became a lead singer in her family’s band.
After her death, "Dreaming of You" hit the stereos and stole the spotlight. Even though she was taught to sing in Spanish by her father, Selena’s English album was absolutely successful.
It is really sad that Selena was not able to see the enormous success of her signature song "Dreaming of You", twenty years after it's initial release.
