“Waiting for Tonight” was written by Michael Gavin, Phil Temple, and Maria Christensen.
The song was initially written and recorded for the American girl group 3rd Party for their debut studio album Alive released in 1997.
The group disbanded, and two years later, Jeniffer Lopez an American singer recorded her version of the song for her studio album On The Six released in 1999.
Her version which was produced by Ric Wake and Richie Jones was a Latin-influenced dance-pop version and it is different from the German-sounding Europop version that was recorded for a 3rd party.
A Spanish version of the song “Una Noche Mas” was adapted by many Benito and was recorded for the album “Waiting for Tonight” and released on 1st November 1999 as the third single from the album On The 6.
The single was a success and it reached the top ten in the UK, US, Finland, Australia, France, Spain, New Zealand and Italy.
It became her first song to top the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart and earned her a nomination at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2000.
Jennifer Lopez who is also known as J.LO is an American singer, dancer, actress and fashion designer.
Her career started in 1991 when she appeared as a Fly Girl dancer where she remained until 1993 when she decided to follow an acting career.
Her first leading role in Selena biopic of the same name in 1997, she received a Golden Globe nomination and she became the first Latin actress to earn more than 1 million US dollars for a film.
Her role in other movies like Anaconda in 1997 and Out of Sight in 1998 saw her establish herself as the highest-paid Latin actress in Hollywood.
The music video for the song “Waiting for Tonight” directed by Francis Lawrence was widely popular and received heavy rotation on MTV, and its emphasis on J.Lo’s body led to increased media attention.
The video currently has more than 43 million views on YouTube, and it received the MTV Video Music Award for Best Dance Video.
