Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball(#ad)
One of the most emotionally challenging songs that Miley has ever worked in."Wrecking Ball" would eventually become Miley's first Billboard Hot 100 no.1 single, after coming tantalizing close to the top of Hot 100 charts for two of her earlier singles.. "We Can't Stop" and "Party in the U.S.A".
Released on the 25th of August from her 2013 multi-platinum album Bangerz,"Wrecking Ball" sold more than 5 million copies in the U.S, getting more than 19.3 million views in the VEVO online platform in a 24 hour period..a record later broken by Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" with 19.6 million views.
Miley should consider herself very lucky for bagging not one but two multi-platinum songs "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball" with a combined sales record of 8.5 million units, that were composed and written for other artists.
"Wrecking Ball" was initially written for Beyonce, just like how "We Can't Stop" was written for Rihanna.
But the song's composition and evolution forced the song writers Dr.Luke and Maureen Anne, to rethink their strategy of offering the song to Beyonce (who was already happily married to Jay Z).
Hence wanted to offer this song to other budding young female arists, who were lost in love for real.
Maureen Anne decided to offer the song to Miley Cyrus as she was aware of Miley's personal life and her 'falling apart' love life with Liam Hemsworth.
Cyrus who was desperately looking for the right melody to sustain the momentum created by "We Can't Stop", was indeed delighted when she listened to raw tune of "Wrecking Ball".
Co-written and produced by Dr.Luke, the Record Producer from New York who has worked with every major artist, since the dawn of millennium, including ...Pink, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Shakira, Flo Rida, Taio Cruz, Jessie J, B.o.B, Juicy J and Ne-Yo.
"Wrecking Ball" sold more than 5 million units in the U.S, 11 million across the globe and is by far Dr.Luke's biggest commercial success to date.
Released in the last week of August 2013,the song shot straight to the 2nd spot on the iTunes charts on it's release, thanks to Miley's infamous twerking with Robin Thickie for "We Can't Stop" at the VMA 2013, which was the hottest trending news for August and the whole of 2013.
If Miley's VMA performance was controversial, then the "Wrecking Ball" music video is definitely not the one to watch with your family.
A combination of Def Leparad's "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U" , "Wrecking Ball" music video has more than 876 million views on Youtube with 3.56 million likes.
As the video begins Miley sings to the camera against a bright white background, she walks around the room with a hammer wearing a sports bra and undies. For some strange reason she starts licking the hammer as she sways on a wrecking ball.
This is where things get real R Rated, in the next clip..Miley is seen without her undies and sports bra..totally nude, still swaying on the wrecking ball.
Cyrus once again licks the hammer and presses the handle of the hammer against her chest, while one part of the wall seems to have completely brought down by Miley's hammer, although this was not shown in the video.
As the chours begins, Miley does indeed break a brick with the hammer..then she licks the wrecking ball's chains. The screen snaps, Miley again sings to the camera, this time more aggressively..touching her face with her hands and almost beating herself on the face with her bare hands.
Once again, Miley sways on the wrecking ball..this time with her inner garments intact,as the wrecking ball comes crashing through a wall, she slaps herself, breaks a brick again using the lower handle of the hammer. Miley passes out on the wall she demolished as the wrecking ball sways on top of her.
Lots and lots of YouTubers had commented that the music video for "Wrecking Ball" , had them 'turned on' like never before.. with many fantasizing a one night stand with the singer.
Her fan base grew at humongous proportions ever since the music video was released as her 'tools licking' act was an instant hit among the middle aged men.
Many listeners and even her ardent fans failed to grasp the gravity of this song, as it was released a few days after her infamous twerking with Robin Thickie and the fact that she had never sung a pop ballad before made things worse, as viewers failed to see beyond Miley's hot body.
Miley issued a statement on the nudity in the video, sharply criticizing those who questioned her 'bare-all act' , saying "I think the video is much more, if people get past the point that I'm naked and you actually look at me you can tell that I actually look more broken then even the song sounds," Cyrus went on to add... "The song is a pop ballad. It's one of these songs that everyone is going to relate to, everyone has felt that feeling at one point."
Cyrus never used fake tears while filming and every drop of tear rolling down her cheeks were indeed very genuine, as she was singing about her broken relation with Liam Hemsworth, the Aussie actor.
She went on to add.."If people can take their minds out of the obvious and go into their imagination a little bit and see kind of what the video really means and the way it's so vulnerable and actually if you look in my eyes I look more sad then my voice sounds on the record it was a lot harder to do the video then it was to record the songs," Cyrus said. "It was much more of an emotional experience."
They got back together during the holiday season of 2016,celebrated the New Year in Australia. The internet is rife with rumours (as on March 2017), that Liam and Miley are expecting a baby, since they are seen installing giant toys, playgrounds and a nursery at their combined 10 acre Malibu property.
Cyrus was finally able to shed Disney's cover girl tag, thanks to "Wrecking Ball" which has since become her signature song, these days fans everywhere refer to her as Wrecking Ball singer and not Hannah Montana.
The song reached the no.1 spot in Hungary, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Scotland, Spain, U.K and U.S.A."Wrecking Ball" also reached the top ten in Belgium, Brazil, Czech Republic, Poland, Ireland, Finland, New Zealand, France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Slovakia, Denmark, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland.
Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball - Lyrics
Release Date - August 25,2013
Album - Bangerz
We clawed, we chained, our hearts in vain
We jumped, never asking why
We kissed, I fell under your spell
A love no one could deny
Don’t you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I can’t live a lie, running for my life
I will always want you
I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was break me
Yeah, you wreck me
I put you high up in the sky
And now, you’re not coming down
It slowly turned, you let me burn
And now, we’re ashes on the ground
Don’t you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I can’t live a lie, running for my life
I will always want you
I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was break me
I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crouching in a blaze and fall
All you ever did was break me
Yeah, you wreck me
I never meant to start a war
I just wanted you to let me in
And instead of using force
I guess I should’ve let you in
I never meant to start a war
I just wanted you to let me in
I guess I should’ve let you in
Don’t you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was break me
I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crouching in a blaze and fall
All you ever did was break me
Yeah, you, you wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me
