The reasons he is retiring is because Cash Money record owes him a lot of money amounting to 51 million dollars. The money that is alleged to have been raised by Tyga, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj’s efforts.
In a tweet last year, Lil Wayne said: “I am now defenseless and mentally defeated and I leave gracefully and thankful I love my fans but am done.”
He, later on, tweeted that he ain't looking for sympathy just serenity.
Lil Wayne confirmed his retirement when he was asked in an interview in Undisputed if he would go back to work when and if Cash Money Records paid all his dues and he said: “Gimmie Mine and I’ll walk free.”This was just confirmation that he would never work with Birdman again.
The song “Lollipop” is from his sixth studio album Tha Carter III, and it features American singer Static Major and produced by Jim Jonsin and Deezle.
The song was released digitally on 13th March 2008. The song is Lil Wayne’s and Static Major’s most successful song up to date. It spent five weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The sad news came when Static Major died two weeks before the release of the song, and this made the song eighth to peak at number one after the death of the credited artist.
The song was certified five times platinum, and it sold more than five million copies in the US.
The music video which was released in honor of Static Major, has more than 265 million views on YouTube, and it was ranked the number one hip-hop song of 2008 and the single was named 2008’s best-selling single worldwide.
