Comic strip creators were more popular and respected than Elvis and Johnny Cash.Walt Disney was considered a role model for the American youth of the 50s and 60s, so was Charles M. Schulz the creator of the sensational comic strip of the 50s Peanuts.
Peanuts comic strip appeared in almost all the American newspapers of the 50s and 60s including The Seattle Times,St. Paul Pioneer Press,The Bethlehem Times,The Washington Post,The Denver Post, The Chicago Tribune and the The Minneapolis Tribune.
Coca Cola the most popular drink of the world war two generation with deep pockets decided to create an half hour documentary on the much read Peanuts comic strip commissioning Lee Mendelson who had earlier created a documentary A Boy Named Charlie Brown with original score by Vince Guaraldi but was rejected by almost all the US Television channels.
Vince Guaraldi had two original scores "Linus and Lucy" and "Christmas Time Is Here" for the original documentary A Boy Named Charlie Brown, both of them were used extensively in the high budget coke sponsored A Charlie Brown Christmas (#ad), released in the holiday season of December 1965.
This Christmas special collection starts and ends with the choir by the Children of St. Paul's Cathedral from the Californian county of San Rafael.
Many a days the recording went late in the night with a disgruntled Director Barry Mineah re-taking the same choir songs again and again.
This forced many agitated parents of the St.Paul's Cathedral to forcefully take away their children while the recording session was in progress, this further agitated an already infuriated Barry Mineah.
Finally Vince Guaraldi and Mendelson agreed to disagree with Director Barry Mineah, created a new melody best suited for the Children's choir.
Not even being close to perfect Director Barry Mineah had no choice but to agree with the duo as things were taking an ugly turn.
To pacify the parents of the Children who withstood the late night recordings, were given an ice cream and a few extra bucks.
The timing of the release of A Charlie Brown Christmas was the least perfection Director Barry Mineah was hoping for and he did get it right by releasing the album on the first week of December 1965.
It was certified multi-platinum by the end of Autumn 1965 and is still regarded as one of the best Christmas collections of all time.
Back in the 60s buying a vinyl record would cost the average American a fortune but that did not stop Vince Guaraldi's A Charlie Brown Christmas from topping the charts throughout 1966 or going multi-platinum.
Even almost after 60 years of it's release, every holiday season Vince Guaraldi's A Charlie Brown Christmas sells like hot cakes.
