Outside the North America, fans and listeners of "Pontoon" had no clue, what Pontoon really meant and had to Google, to find the actual meaning for the word Pontoon.
There really was this embarrassing incident for Little Big Town, during their U.K tour for a London concert, when fans hardly cheered for their most popular song, "Pontoon"... which caught the band totally unawares.
When the song was performed, the fans stared into each other's eyes with a whimsical look.This incident shocked the band, as they eventually understood..that the London fans, didn't have a clue on what "Pontoon" really means.
This incident prompted Little Big Town band members to issue a statement, with Karen Fairchild..the lead female vocalist who sang the song, revealing the story behind the song's title Pontoon, in an interview to a very popular website based on songs.
In the interview, Karen confesses that coming from one of the Bible-belt Southern states, with a guitar in one hand and a gun in other, her entire childhood was spent on Pontoons (flat boats that support temporary bridges, which can be used as fishing boats)..where she would play with other kids all day long.
And those people who don't know what Pontoon really is, must have a had a drink too many.Released on the 30th of April. 2012, "Pontoon" topped the Billboard's Hot Country Songs charts on the third week of September (15 - 22), 2012 and managed to reach the 22nd spot in the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Released as a lead single from their fifth album Tornado, "Pontoon" has more than 34 million views on YouTube with 138,000 likes.Many YouTubers have appreciated the freshness of the song and the hotness of Karen Fairchild.
The song didn't gain any traction in Australia, where Country music and American country music singers are very popular.
Neverthless, "Pontoon" did justice to an all American Country band, which never gave up inspite of not having any major success, since it's inception almost 20 years ago, in 1998.
