Overview
This 2015 American science fiction/dystopian adventure movie was directed by Francis Lawrence. It’s the fourth and last movie in the The Hunger Games franchise and the second movie based on the novel Mockingjay. It was distributed by Lionsgate and includes several famous actors/actresses. The movie was filmed in Atlanta started in September 2013 then moved to filming in Paris and Berlin.
In the movie, Katniss prepares to defeat President Snow and the Capitol. She travels to the Capital with Peeta, Gale, etc. with the mission to kill Snow. However, President Coin is District 13’s leader and puts Katniss’ life in danger along with Panem’s future.
The film was released in November 2015 in the US in 2 D/IMAX theaters and other theaters. The movie earned $653 million worldwide, which was the lowest figure for the franchise’s four movies. It receives positive reviews from critics but received criticism for the final adaption including 2 parts. Available in amazon prime video's huge repertoire, this movie was also nominated for several awards.
Plot Summary
Katniss is recovering after Peeta attacker her due to the Capitol brain-washing him. Katniss’ request is rejected by Alma because the rebellion doesn’t want o loser her. She’s sent to District 2, which is the final one the Capitol controls. The air force of District 13 launches a bombing of the mountain with the nickname The Nut. The survivors are shot but Katniss survives since she has a Mockingjay costume that’s bullet-proof.
Katniss agrees to board a supply ship that’s going to Capitol. She joins the Star Squad.” They’ll follow the invasion of the Capital, which explains why this is one of the most exciting amazon movies. Boggs bring a holographic map to help with the invasion. During the invasion, Bogos is wounded and hands the Holo to Katniss.
The group stays in a building where the second-in-command is Jackson. Katniss then explains she has a secret mission to kill Snow. The group escapes before the Peacekeepers squad destroys the building. Capitol then announces the Katniss is dead just before Snow starts making a speech that opposes the rebellion.
Later Katniss learns that Capitol was defeated and Snow was captured. He then explains that he wasn’t responsible for the attack. Katniss then decide to break her ties with Gale. Afterwards, Coin announces that she’s the temporary president of Panem. She suggests having another Hunger Games. Some of the group supports the idea and others oppose it. Katniss votes for the games if Snow is executed in public. Haymitch also votes yes, which gives it the majority.
Then during the execution, Katniss decides to kill Coin rather than Snow. A riot then takes place. Katniss is arrested as she watches Snow die from attacking rebels. She then gets a letter that guarantees the new president will pardon her. Commander Paylor becomes the new president. Another scene shows Katniss years later when she realizes that she made the right decisions.

This amazon prime video included many cast members from the previous movies in the series. It was also directed by the same person who directed ¾ of the movies in the series.
Background
If you want to watch movies online it’s helpful to know some basic facts about its production. Lionsgate announced in July 2012 that the third book’s adaptation would be split into two parts. The director Lawrence explained that he had to prove himself when he directed the series’ second film in the series. He felt some pressure but he also had the chance to take his directing to the next level. Meanwhile, the screenwriting were both written by Danny Strong.
Production of Mockingjay Part 2 started in September 2013. The shooting took place in Boston, Atlanta, and LA. The movie’s production budget was $160 million. There was also $5 for promotion/ads and nearly $14 million for TV ads.
The main shooting started in September 2013 in Atlanta. It continued until June 2014 in Berlin. The two parts were shot back-to-back. Filming also took place in Atlanta and other areas in Georgia. Philip Seymore Hoffman passed away when there was one left of shooting for Part 2. The studio decided not to recreate his image digitally for a major scene in Part 2.
After the filming in George was completed the movie’s production transferred to Europe. Filming took place in various locations in Germany including Berlin.
Release/Reception
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 premiered in November in LA and NYC. It then premiered in other cities like Berlin, Paris, Madrid, and Beijing. The film was released in the US on Nov. 20 including 3D formats. This was the franchise’s third film to be released in IMAX.
Mockingjay Part 2 grossed over $281.7 million North America and $371.7 million other nations in the world for a total of $653,4 million. In fact, it was also the lowest grossing film in the series. The Paris terrorist attacks and other blockbuster films released around the same time were blamed as some of the reasons for the film’s box office performance.
The film was released in over 90 countries outside the US. Many analysts projected that the movie would out-perform the openings of the previous 3 Hunger Games movies since it was the last film. The main explanations for the movie’s under-performance included the Paris terrorist attacks and the rising value of the US dollar. However, the movie still topped international box offices for 4 weekends in a row.
Meanwhile, in North America, the movie earned $102.7 million during the first weekend. However, this was much lower than the projected $120-125 million that was projected by experts. However, it should be noted that the movie under performed both in the US and abroad.
The film received generally positive reviews. That includes a 70% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also received a 65/100 score at Metacritic. The movie was also nominated for various awards.
