Simply Red - Songs Of Love(#ad)
"If You Don't Know Me by Now" is a song that was written by Leon Huff and Kenny Gamble. It was originally recorded by a Phily Soul musical group called Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.
This was their first single after it's release in 1972, and it topped the US R&B chart and reached number 3 on the US Pop chart.
The song was written for another group Labelle a trio led by Patti Labelle, that never recorded it.
There are other recordings of the song and the Simply Red version is one of them. Simply Red is a British soul and pop band formed in 1985, Manchester.
Mick Hucknall is the lead singer of the band, and is also a well known songwriter. He was the only original member, who left the band, before the band was disbanded in 2010.
The band has had a good reputation since the release of their debut studio album Picture Book in 1985.
They do have ten songs that have reached top ten in the UK Singles Chart including the song "If You Don't Know Me by Now" and “Holding Back the Years.”
They also have five number one albums in the UK, and their 1991 album Stars is one of the best selling in the UK.
"If You Don't Know Me by Now" by Simply Red was produced by Stewart Levine, and he said he never wanted too much orchestration on the record and opted for a two-part harmony instead of a three-part harmony.
This version of the song is heard in the film American Psycho and also appears in the game Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol.
The song is available for download for Lips the Xbox 360 game. The music video for the song has more than 50 million views on YouTube and it showcases one of the band members, singing in a hall full of empty piled up chairs, while a camera is rolling.
