Taken from their second studio album Battleground, the British-Irish band released "Lightning" on October 16, 2011. The single was written by Wayne Hector, Steve Mac, and Ed Drewett and hit number two on the UK Singles Chart.
It's promotional-remix single release in the United States was canceled even after they successfully hit US list with Glad You Came.
When the song kick starts with a thumping electronic beat, the artists’ vocals come in play one by one with a unison during the chorus.
It premiered first when they were on their spring tour in 2011 and later became a mainstream on the radio on September 17, 2011.
The band had no idea the track would be successful since they were producing it as a filler until their album was complete.
It is about relationships’ sparks that are so strong, powerful and yet frightening both physically and emotionally.
Positive responses were directed to the "Lightning" song where it received a four-star rating out of five from CBBC Newsround while Lewis Corner from Digital Spy commended the catchy and cool melody from the track.
Honestly, the verses are not very much attractive but the chorus has you singing to the rhythm in no time.
A live performance was done during the edition of the X Factor results show on October 16 and later on October 30, 2011, the band made a special appearance on the Strictly Come to Dancing Halloween Special.
Directed by Matt Stawski, the track’s video was shot at LA and premiered via The Wanted’s YouTube channel on September 22. 2011.
So far, it has gathered over 23 million views thanks to the Global Talent Label, Universal Island. It’s based on a partying set up where each member of the band performed their best on several scenarios during the night.
