Off her eighth studio album, Fever, Kylie Minogue...the Australian songbird partnered with Parlophone to release "Can’t Get You Out of My Head" as the lead single on 8th September 2001.
It was later released to the UK market in 17th September 2001 but didn’t hit the US airwaves until 18th February 2002.
A mid-tempo dance pop song, it was co- written, composed and produced by Cathy Dennis and Rob Davis.
Famous for it's "la la la hook", "Can’t Get You Out of My Head" displays Kylie`s obsession for her lover.
This song enjoyed wild success commercially and managed to top the charts of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, the UK and every other European country excluding Finland.
Canada, Australia and New Zealand were also not left behind as they showed support for the song by voting it into first position.
The song managed position 7 in the United States Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Managing to top the list in over 40 countries all over the globe, this song became Kylie`s biggest hit in the US since her previously released song “The Loco-Motion”.
As if that wasn’t enough, it won Gold in the US, hit double platinum in the UK and struck triple platinum in Australia.
It registered as the first single released by Minogue to sell in excess of one million copies in the United Kingdom. It also holds the record as the best-selling single of the millennium.
As late as 2013, this song still remained Kylie`s highest selling single with sales exceeding 8 million copies worldwide.
Dawn Shadforth directed the music video to this song. Minogue showcased her exotic dance moves in different futuristic backdrops.
"Can’t Get You Out of My Head" peaked at the 7th spot in the famed Billboard Hot 100 charts, selling half a million copies in the States similar to it's sales in Germany, South Africa, Austria and Netherlands.
But the biggest surprise of them all was France, where "Can’t Get You Out of My Head" sold a million copies, gaining a Platinum certification.
It has to be noted that sales picked up in France and many other European countries as soon as the music video was released.
Noted by many as one of Kylie's sexiest music videos...many of her conservative fans were taken aback by Kylie's minimal clothing in the music video,a stark contrast to the shy, loyal, denim only wearing Kylie of the 80s and early 90s.
The success of this single catapulted the sales of it's parent album, Fever which sold more than 6 million copies across the globe..riding on the success of "Can’t Get You Out of My Head".
