Worldwide, the hit song became top in more than 29 countries including the UK and became her signature track as well as a best seller globally.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, the music video included Shakira playing in a series of scenes that represented nature at it's best as she sings of her love.
During her world tours, the Tour of Mongoose, The Sun Comes Out World Tour and oral Fixation Tours, Shakira promoted the track live with different versions.
The track was nominated for 5 MTV Awards in 2002, Alma Award for Outstanding Music Video and Echo Award for Best Single of the Year.

Like every other artist, Shakira hit the media on several occasions on a sex tape including her husband, Gerald Pique.
She has had a taste of poverty when her family went bankrupt at the age of 7 which made her a better person and a bonafide artist eventually.
Her outstanding moves and strong energy put in her songs make her the best female singer.
However, she is a generous charity worker especially with children and a multilingual artist whose tracks never fail to amaze the world.

Album - Laundry Service
Lucky you were born that far away so
We could both make fun of distance
Lucky that I love a foreign land for
The lucky fact of your existence
Baby I would climb the Andes solely
To count the freckles on your body
Never could imagine there were only
Ten million ways to love somebody
Can't you see
I'm at your feet
Whenever, wherever
We're meant to be together
I'll be there and you'll be near
And that's the deal my dear
There over, hereunder
You'll never have to wonder
We can always play by ear
But that's the deal my dear
Lucky that my lips not only mumble
They spill kisses like a fountain
Lucky that my breasts are small and humble
So you don't confuse them with mountains
Lucky I have strong legs like my mother
To run for cover when I need it
And these two eyes that for no other
The day you leave will cry a river
At your feet
I'm at your feet
Whenever, wherever
We're meant to be together
I'll be there and you'll be near
And that's the deal my dear
Thereover, hereunder
You'll never have to wonder
We can always play by ear
But that's the deal my dear
Think out loud
Say it again
Tell me one more time
That you'll live
Lost in my eyes
Whenever, wherever
We're meant to be together
I'll be there and you'll be near
And that's the deal my dear
There over, here under
You've got me head over heels
There's nothing left to fear
If you really feel the way I feel
Whenever, wherever
We're meant to be together
I'll be there and you'll be near
And that's the deal my dear
There over, hereunder
You've got me head over heels
There's nothing left to fear
If you really feel the way I feel
“Whenever Wherever” catapulted Shakira into charts worldwide. The lead single to her debut English-language album Laundry Service (2001) was her first foray into singing in English and it marked her colossal crossover from Latin-pop superstardom in Latin America to global pop-stardom.
She joined the ranks of Gloria Estefan & Jennifer Lopez as Latin pop’s biggest crossover artists. Shakira was no novice to music when she released Laundry Service.
She already had 4 Spanish-language albums under her belt; her first was released at the age of 13 & her last 2 were big hits in Latin America. With an eye to conquer America, she shifted base to Miami, Florida in 1997.
She taught herself to write songs in English and enlisted Emilio Estefan, member of Miami Sound Machine and Gloria Estefan’s husband, as her manager and producer.
Shakira’s music combines world beats; she has embraced music from the West and East (Middle-East), being exposed to two different cultures growing up.
Her mother was a native Colombian with Spanish & Italian ancestry, her father was of Lebanese descent. Her music is a blend of Latin American, Arabic and rock and roll influences.
She writes most of her own lyrics and produces most of her own albums.Every song on Laundry Service is written and produced by Shakira.
The album was also released as Servicio de Lavandería in Spanish-speaking countries. The album has sold 13 Million copies worldwide.
“Whenever Wherever” was written by her with some help by Gloria Estefan. The song was produced by Shakira and Tim Mitchell.
The single became a breakthrough hit, settling at a peak position of no.6 on the Billboard Hot 100. At that time, it was her most successful single in America.
The record was later broken by her superlative success "Hips Don't Lie” which topped the chart 5 years later in 2006.
“Whenever Wherever” went on to no.1 position in 29 countries, including most of Europe and her native Columbia and peaked at no.2 on the UK charts. The single has sold more than 3 Million units outside of America.
The infectious mood of the single, pop infused with latin beats, quirky lyrics and a sexy video helped introduce Shakira to the world.
She became an instant global sensation and her signature hip-shaking belly dance moves were emulated in drawing rooms across the globe.
The song was also released in Spanish as “Suerte”, which translates to ‘luck’ in English. It peaked at no.1 on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart and in other Spanish-speaking countries where it was released.
Shakira is the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time and the second-most successful female Latin singer after Gloria Estefan. However above all, she is a global icon today.
