 Vanessa Williams - Greatest Hits(#ad)

“Save the Best For Last” is a single written by Phil Galdston, Jon Lind and Wendy Waldman in March 1989. The song was later released in 1992 and is considered to be Vanessa Williams’ signature song.

Vanessa had put together a successful recording career after her former Miss America resignation scandal and the lyrics of the song and the redemptive theme resonated with her story.

The song is about a young female admirer of a young single man who stands by and watches the object of her desires go through several years of dating and relationships before he finally decides to initiate a relationship with the singer.

Vannessa was molested by an 18-year-old daughter of her friend’s family while she was young. She tried to suppress the incident, but it found its way to the top eventually.

She says the incident awakened her sexual feelings at a tender age which wasn’t supposed to happen and it was wrong.

This former Miss America lost her crown back in 1983 after photos of her in lesbian poses were sold to penthouses.

This did not bring down the twice-divorced mother of four and she went ahead to have a successful career as an actress and singer.

The song “Save the Best For Last” was not originally written for Vanessa Williams. Several other singers were offered the song.

But they turned it down. When Vanessa was recording her album called The Comfort Zone, a song had to be replaced at the last minute and when she was played “Save the Best For Last” she said, she had to have the song and couldn’t believe nobody else wanted it.

The song was her third number one single on the Soul Singles chart and it also topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks and it became the biggest hit of her career.

The song video has 29 million views on YouTube and one of the best ballad classical songs until today.

Sometimes the snow comes down in June

Sometimes the sun goes round the moon

I see the passion in your eyes

Sometimes it's all a big surprise

Cause there was a time when all I did was wish

You'd tell me this was love

It's not the way I hoped or how I planned

 But somehow it's enough

 And now we're standing face-to-face

Isn't this world a crazy place?

Just when I thought our chance had passed

You go and save the best for last

All of the nights you came to me

When some silly girl had set you free

You wondered how you'd make it through

I wondered what was wrong with you

Cause how could you give your love to someone else

And share your dreams with me

Sometimes the very thing you're looking for

Is the one thing you can't see

 But now we're standing face-to-face

Isn't this world a crazy place?

Just when I thought our chance had passed

You go and save the best for last

la da da da - da da -

Sometimes the very thing you're looking for

Is the one thing you can't see

Sometimes the snow comes down in June

Sometimes the sun goes round the moon

Just when I thought our chance had passed

You go and save the best for last

You went and saved the best for last.... yeah......
