REO Speedwagon - The Hits(#ad)
The power ballad "Can’t Fight This Anymore" was recorded in August 1984 by REO Speedwagon and released on December 31, 1984, through the Epic Record Label.
Kevin Cronin wrote the song and produced it alongside Gary Richrath and Alan Gratzer. From their album Wheels are Turnin’, the hit top on the US charts and the band performed live at the 1985 Live Aid.
Two different videos were released, the home made version features the band in a studio and they appear to be having fun practicing the song.
It was featured in the CW show Supernatural and South Park. It was also used to promote the film Horton Hears a Who!
In the track, Kevin is the lead vocalist supported in the background by Bruce Hall and Alan who also play bass and drums respectively. Gary plays guitar while Neal Doughty brings the keyboards to life.
With over 36 million YouTube views, "Can’t Fight this Feeling" has sold over half a million copies in the US alone.
In Canada, the track received a Gold certification and a top chart reputation from various countries across Europe and the United Kingdom.
The band lost Gary Richrath on November 22, 2013, after being taken to the hospital for a stomach treatment. Since then, the group has dedicated their tracks to his memory.
Gary had departed the group due to a fallout with Cronin but they had already made peace before his untimely death. On top of that, he was the reason Kevin joined the group after spotting him at a Chicago club.
Throughout the years, the band has played side by side, faced the media together, and fought lawsuits. In 2012, REO sued Sony Music for unpaid royalties, triggered by lack of compensation from online streaming services.
