Once the song was released on September 10th 2014, by the American rock band from their lead song in the Talking is Hard album, it peaked at number four on the Billboard Top 100 and resided at top ten on other music charts in several other countries.
"Shut Up and Dance" became the bands biggest hit. It is still the biggest till this day. The song was inspired by a personal experience by Nicholas Petricca with his girlfriend.
According to Petricca, they were at the bar with his girlfriend and the waiters were taking forever the offer drinks.
In the background, he heard a great tune playing and wanted to dance out there. His girlfriend was like “Shut Up and Dance With Me" and that was when the song was born.
The beat of the song is very retro with heavy 80s new wave beats, which made it all more popular. The rock guitar and synthesizer meets upbeat and catchy melodies gets you to shut up and dance, as the title of the song suggests.
It was by far the best song on the radio airwaves for the year 2014.The song was co-written by Eli Maiman, Nicholas Petricca, Sean Waugaman, Kevin Ray and Ryan McMahon and produced by Tim Pagnotta.
The genre of the song comprises of Indie pop, Power Pop, dance -rock and pop rock. The music video was released on October 23, 2014, on YouTube and starts professional dance Lauren Taft along side Petricca. The video is a 1980s club-themed movie-style video.
In August 2015, the song had already sold over 321, 000 copies and was certified triple platinum by Music Canada. It has more than 257, 000, 000 views on YouTube.
The song brings about the feeling of being alive and seizing the dancing moment.
