Best of Metallica (#ad)
It's hard to believe that not a single major record label in New York city was willing to sign Metallica to their label back in 1984.Two decades later they are the most successful thrash metal band on the planet.
Metallica, a self titled album by the band, also known as The Black Album is still 'doing the rounds' in the Billboard 200 album charts, 25 years after it's release, thanks to the 2014 Grammy performance by the band.
The band members sacrificed so much for the success of this album, including divorcing their wives, to feel 'real pain' so that they can channelize their pain and agony into the lyrics and vocals for the album recording, early 1991.
Rumor has it, that the band members made a deal with the devil himself to make the album a success like none.Which was 'very normal' for the heavy metal bands of the 80s and 90s.
Apart from selling 16 million copies, The Black Album was certified 16 times platinum, the highest by a heavy metal band.Metallica's Black Album includes classics such as "Nothing Else Matters " , "Don't Tread On Me" , "The Unforgiven" , "Wherever I May Roam" and "Enter Sandman".
Band members Jason Newsted,James Hetfield,Kirk Hammett and Lars Ulrich went through unimaginable stress and trauma especially with their producer Bob Rock, who was bent in making the album as per his wishes and not the band members.
The end result was heightened tension in the studio during recording sessions with Bob Rock asking for a retake of whatever Metallica sang. The band members vowed never to work again with Rock but they failed to keep their vow as Bob would work with them till St. Anger, Metallica's 2003 album.
