When Adele was offered work on the soundtrack for the 2012 James Bond movie Skyfall (#ad) unlike many of her contemporaries she did not accept the offer with closed eyes.Instead she went through the movie script twice and accepted the offer after much introspection.
The long pause that Adele took to accept the offer can be attributed to the success of her recently released album 21 and she felt that Skyfall will not 'sync' with her album 21.
And she confessed to the director of the bond movie Skyfall, Sam Mendes that she is not the right person to create the OST for Skyfall. But Mendes told to take it easy and write a personal in-depth soulful, haunting number like she always does.
Mendes went a step ahead and hinted Adele to take cues from her predecessors for a start.For someone who often gets stuck with writer's block, this was more than just a cue, this infact was a start given by one of the best directors the world has ever seen,Sam Mendes.
As per his suggestion, Adele took the crux of the material for her Skyfall soundtrack from another James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me - "Nobody Does It Better".
This Carly Simon's number worked wonders for Adele's confidence as she came up with a stunning version of her Skyfall single that sold more than 300,000 copies on the iTunes music store U.S and U.K within a week of it's release.
It reached the No.1 spot on the iTunes music store's singles chart in less than 8 hours of it's release apart from reaching the zenith in many European countries including Netherlands,Germany,France and Poland.
Even Daniel Craig who plays James Bond in Skyfall confessed on Yahoo that he was in tears when he first listened to Adele's Skyfall and admitted her voice was mesmerizing.
Adele's Skyfall would become the only James Bond movie to win an Oscar for Best Original Movie Soundtrack in 2013 apart from winning the Best British Song of the year 2013 at BRIT awards.
