Backstreet Boys - Millennium(#ad)
Released mid May 1999 with a cleverly chosen title, Millennium from Backstreet Boys would become one of all time greatest, best-selling albums ever with more than 40.5 million copies sold worldwide.
Millennium contains some of the best slow jam soft pop songs to hit the music scene, including the ever green Backstreet Boys' signature songs "I Want It That Way" and "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely".
But it was not their most expensive song nor one of the most expensive songs of all time. The credit goes to the second single from Backstreet Boys' Millennium album "Larger Than Life".
Produced by Joseph Kahn, the American music director and producer known for creating many of the world's expensive music videos including Janet Jackson's "Doesn't Really Matter", with a budget of around 2.6 million American dollars along with Taylor Swift's 2014 smash hit "Blank Space" which has more than 1.51 billion views on YouTube.
Khan would spend a whooping 2.13 million dollars on the 1999 music video of Backstreet Boys' "Larger Than Life".
Yet, it failed to live up to the expectation of Backstreet Boys' young, crazy and energetic fans, peaking at no.25 in the Billboard Hot 100 U.S Charts.
It was the less expensive, no frills, no nonsense music video for "I Want It That Way", which would become the boy band's ever green hit with the social media generation, garnering 201 million views on YouTube, to date.
Directed at the Los Angeles International Airport, early 1999, Backstreet Boys' fans were infuriated when the song did not win a single Grammy award at the 2000 Grammy awards presentation.
The band have confessed on many interviews that not winning a Grammy for "I Want It That Way" in-spite of being the no.1 song in more than 26 countries,is the most disappointing day of their lives.
The sales of this track echoed the sentiments of Backstreet Boys, as it sold more than 2.5 million copies around the world along with an infinite number of airplay on the radios everywhere.
Selling more than 1.13 million copies in their first week, they were immortalized by their fans especially Nick Carter after Millennium was released.
But the record did not stand long as N Sync broke every possible sales record on the planet with their 2000 album No Strings Attached.
Millennium had more sentimental bubblegum slow pops than any of Backstreet Boys previous albums including "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely ", "The One" and "Spanish Eyes".
But it was "I Want It That Way" that will lead the way for Backstreet Boys for the rest of their lifetime.
Written by Max Martin,a music producer from Sweden who can hardly speak English, many critics called "I Want It That Way", a rubbish of a track with no lyrical sense.
Max Martin also wrote Britney Spears' 1999 hit "Baby, One More Time" and Bon Jovi's millennial hit "It's My Life", leaving native English song writers smokin' on both ears.
And so they called "I Want It That Way", an utter nonsense, filled with grammatical and rhyming errors.
Backstreet Boys band members jumped to the rescue of Max Martin, confessing the fact he can't speak English but can write English to a certain extent.
And the song is about physical distance that separates lovers, an outlet of their emotions, dedicated to the die-hard fans of Backstreet Boys.
After all these years, Backstreet Boys are still intact, frequently updating their Twitter account.
