Glenn Frey - Solo Collection(#ad)
Released on the 28th of March,Glenn Frey Solo Collection includes some of his best songs in the post Eagles era from 1982 to 1994.
Being one of the founding members of Eagles, it was never going to be easy for Glenn to let go of something that he loved the most in this world, The Eagles.
But Glenn Frey had no other choice but to abandon his ship, when Don Felder broke his guitar during the middle of a 1980 DNC concert for Democratic Presidential nominee Alan Cranston.
According to many eye-witnesses..if not for Alan it would have been a blood bath between Felder and Glenn.
Inspite of his amazing guitar and vocal skills, former Eagles band members have accused Glenn Frey of treating them like second-class citizens, even when the band reached the dizzy heights of success with "Hotel California".
Unfortunately for Glenn, every other band member apart from Henley have pointed their fingers at him for their break-up from The Eagles. The list includes Don Felder,Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon.
But it was not until 1982, when Glenn would publicly announce his decision to quit Eagles, which he informed Henley almost 2 years ago.
Going solo in the 80s would never be easy for Glenn, as Electronic and New Wave music would sweep an entire decade.
Singing Country music for almost 2 decades, Glenn found it very hard to adopt to the New Wave music era.
His very first solo album No Fun Aloud, released May 1982 had the hit single "The One You Love" which helped the album to sell a little over half a million copies by the end of 1982.
Many critics of Glenn argued that the album No Fun Aloud was able to cross 500,000 copies in sales purely because of brand name Glenn Frey and not for the songs in the album.
Frey will soon prove his critics wrong, when he was chosen to sing OST "Heat is On" for the 1984 Hollywood blockbuster Beverly Hills Cop, starring Eddie Murphy.
Selling more than 2 million copies,"Heat is On" has become Glenn's signature solo song and is still played at many sporting events across the globe, even though it's been 32 years since the song was released.
NBA team Miami Heat were so impressed with this song, they chose "Heat is On" as their team's theme song and was played every time they won..for many years since it's creation in 1988.
Frey who was paid $15,000 for singing this song by the producers of Beverly Hills Cop..would later banter in an interview that he just received a small pocket money on the Christmas Eve of 1984 from the creators of Beverly Hills Cop.
Money was never an issue for Glenn as he holds the Guinness World Record for Most Songs Sold by a Group in USA, with more than 29 platinum certified songs and 150 million units of sales, this founding member of Eagles defined and dictated the 70s, just like The Beatles did in U.K.
Glenn Frey - You Belong to the City - Lyrics
Release Date - 15th November, 1985
Album - Miami Vice soundtrack
The sun goes down
The night rolls in
You can feel it starting
All over again
The moon comes up
And the music calls
You're getting tired of
Staring at the same four walls
You're out of your room
And down on the street
Moving through the crowd
In the midnight heat
The traffic roars
And the sirens scream
You look at the faces
It's just like a dream
Nobody knows where you're going
Nobody cares where you've been
'Cause you belong to the city
You belong to the night
Living in a river of darkness
Beneath the neon light
You were born in the city
Concrete under your feet
It's in your moves
It's in your blood
You're a man of the street
When you said goodbye
You were on the run
Trying to get away
From the things you've done
Now you're back again
And you're feeling strange
So much has happened
But nothing has changed
You still don't know where you're going
You're still just a face in the crowd
You belong to the city
You belong to the night
Living in a river of darkness
Beneath the neon light
You were born in the city
Concrete under your feet
It's in your blood
It's in your moves
You're a man of the street
You can feel it
You can taste it
You can see it
You can face it
You can hear it hey
You're getting near it hey
You wanna make it whoa
'Cause you can take it whoa
You belong to the city
You belong to the night
You belong to the city
You belong to the night
You belong
You belong
Oh
