Released on the 27th of March,2012..as a lead single for the 2012 blockbuster movie Men in Black 3, “Back In Time” is the first MIB movie where Will Smith did not release an official soundtrack.
Pitbull was given the honors of releasing the soundtrack for Men in Black 3,as MIB 3's movie director Sonneneld's daughter was a huge fan of Pitbull, persuading her father to listen to his music, eventually cajoling him sign up Pitbull instead of the usual Will Smith stuff.
Fortunately there was no bad blood between Pitbull and Will Smith, as the Miami based singer issued a statement on the MIB 3 soundtrack, “It’s an incredible honor to be a part of such an amazing franchise as Men in Black and I have so much respect for Will Smith, especially with our similar musical backgrounds”.
The issue was settled right there and the focus turned towards the movie soundtrack and it's theme, which was revealed by Pitbull "in order to understand the future, you have to go back in time.'”
Pitbull, did not disappoint his die-hard fan (Sonneneld's daughter) as “Back In Time” sold more than 3.2 million copies across the globe, with 1.4 million units being sold in the U.S alone.
The song reached the 11th spot in the Billboard Hot 100 charts.And has more than 24 million views on YouTube with 106,941 likes.
The music video which was published on YouTube on 7th of December 2012, has Pitbull dressed up in black suits just like the other 3 MIB stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.
As the video begins, a super hot female MIB agent, releases Pitbull from a high security prison (who is also his female body-guard)..takes him to a Chinese restaurant, where they enjoy a sumptuous dinner, while hiding super hi-tech alien weapons inside their clothes.
As they were enjoying the Chinese food, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones arrive at the restaurant on a tip-off from the sexy female MIB agent.
Just then an aggressive alien in light Brown leather jackets arrives at the restaurant and tries to shoot the female bar-tender (also an alien).
Will Smith saves the alien bar-tender by flipping a dining table, before the alien bullet turns her into a green-jelly, as the sexy female agent whisks away Pitbull from the crime scene.
As the video progresses, Will Smith goes back in time to find out more about Pitbull and figures out that he is a super-star singer of the 1960s (also an undercover MIB agent) and tries to capture him..for some reason..but Pitbull was long gone before Will Smith can get to his place.
“Back In Time” music video blended well with the movie, as it was shot on the sets of MIB 3 simultaneously, when the actual shooting for MIB 3 took place.
The song reached top 10 chart positions in more than 10 countries including Denmark (more than 900,000 units were sold), Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, Poland, France, Australian, Canada, Hungary and Czech Republic.
