“The Worst” is a song by an American recording artist Jhene Aiko. She was born on March 16, 1988, as Jhene Aiko Efuru Chilombo.
She started her music career appearing in several music videos for R&B group B2K and also contributing vocals to the group.
She was known as B2K’s member Lil Fizz’s cousin though she wasn’t actually related to him.
This was a marketing strategy suggested by Epic Records and Sony to promote Jhene through the group B2K and attract her own audience.
Aiko was set to release her debut studio album in 2000 called My Name Is Jhene through her labels, Epic Records, Sony and The Ultimate Group but the album was never released.
She asked to be released from the label to continue her education putting a halt to the album release.
“The Worst” was released on her debut album EP Sail Out in 2013 and it was released as the album’s second official single.
The song was serviced to Rhythmic modern radio on 14th January 2014 through Def Jam Recordings and ARTium.
"The Worst" was written by Aiko and Myron Birdsong and produced by Fisticuffs.
"The Worst" is an R&B song whose lyrics explore Aiko’s regrets towards falling in love with the wrong person for her.
The song peaked at number forty three on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the airplay Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The song also won the Centric Award at the 2014 BET Awards.
The music video for the song which has more than 93 million views on YouTube was directed by Danny Williams and was released on November 11, 2013.
The video shows the consequences of the murder of Aiko’s boyfriend.
She performed the song on several TV shows like Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and BBC Radio 1’s Future Festival.
The song was certified platinum and has later been remixed by T.I, Jaden Smith, and KirkoBangz.
