ZZ Top is an American band like no other. The reason for this is how they have shown their support for Houston after hurricane Harvey destroyed the town and displaced a lot of people.
ZZ Top is composed of three guys Billy Gibbons the guitarist and lead vocalist, Dusty Hill the bass guitarist and keyboards and also the backing vocalist and Frank Beard who is the drummer.
One of the band’s members Billy Gibbons is a Houston native and he said that the only good news is that they were far away from the crazy floods.
Gibbons is one of the most beloved musicians in Houston, but he hasn’t been home since the hurricane. All this changed on September 10th when the band scheduled a show to donate $100,000 to help in the floods relief.
“Rough Boy” is the third single from their 1985 album Afterburner. After the release of the song, it reached number five on the Album Rock Tracks and number twenty-two on the Billboard Hot 100.
It also reached number 23 on in the UK Top 40. This song is a bit different from the others in the same album because of the slower tempo and is also more of a power ballad.
The song shares a slower but similar tune to their song Leila from their album El Loco.
The music video directed by Steve Baron features a car/space shuttle hybrid that visits a car wash in space interspersed with images of the band member’s hands and faces.
The song was nominated for several awards like MTV Video Music Award for Best Cinematography, MTV Video Music Awards for Best Editing, and MTV Video Music Award for Best Visual Effects among others.
The song, however, managed to win the 1986 MTV Award for Best Art Direction. The song video has more than 4 million views on YouTube and still going.
