"When I Am Gone" was released on December 6, 2005 and became number eight on Billboard Hot 100 as well as top five in the UK Singles Chart.
Shady Records wrote and released the track together with his album Curtain Call which reflected most of Eminem’s life and that of his family.
Nevertheless, the song received a warm response from critics but Sputnik Music and NME were not impressed by the music.
The music video stars Eminem, his daughter Hailie Jade Mathers and an actress playing as his Ex-wife, Kim Mathers.
It portrays a series of father-daughter feuds but the end comes with a happy ending where Eminem plays with Hailie.
At the time of the video’s release, the artist was already divorced but Kim’s other daughter, Whitney Laine Scott appears towards the end of the video.
Eminem has been known to start fights unprovoked probably because he had a troublesome childhood but that has not stopped him from releasing great hits over the years.
Globally, "When I Am Gone" maintained a top ten position in various countries across the continents including Europe, the US, and the UK; gathering over 500 million views.
Despite his being hospitalized in 2005 from a methadone overdose, Eminem released an inspiring and emotional album Curtail Call.
He stated that at the time he was in a dark state that led him to alcoholism and drug addiction.
He does not make any excuse for his behavior at the time but his popularity was rising up so fast and it became overwhelming for him.
However, Eminem never failed to entertain his fans and his tracks say a lot about his life. "When I Am Gone" still remains an inspiration to dads out there.
