“Sugar” is a song by American pop rock band Maroon 5. The band is from LA, California and it consists of Adam Levine the lead vocalist, Jesse Carmichael the keyboardist and a rhythm guitarist, Mickey Madden bassist, James Valentine the lead guitarist, Matt Flynn drummer, PJ Morton keyboardist and Sam Farrar a multi-instrumentalist.
The initial members first came together as Kara’s Flowers in 1994 while they were in high school.
At this time, they self-released an album called We Like Digging? , after which they signed to Reprise Records and released another album The Fourth World in 1997.
The band parted ways with the recording label after the album got a tepid response and the band members attended college.
The band later returned in 2001 and changed their name and image by adding a guitarist, and they started pursuing a different direction.
The song “Sugar” was recorded for their fifth studio album, V and it was written by Adam Levine, Mike Posner, Jacob Kasher and Dr. Luke together with the producers Cirkut and Ammo.
The song was then sent to contemporary hit radio in the US as the third single from the album on 13 January 2015.
The song is a funk-pop, disco and soul song that has a broad range of instruments including guitars, keyboards, and percussion.
The song peaked at No 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and it is the 68th song to score at least 20 weeks in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 in history.
Film director David Dobkin shot the music video which currently has more than 2.3 billion views on YouTube.
And it was inspired by a romantic comedy Wedding Crashers. The video shows the band crashing a wedding that happened in the city.
The song was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 58th Grammy Awards.
