If Rihanna Fenty was not discovered and introduced to the outside world by producer Evan Rogers holidaying in Barbados during early 2003, she would have been singing in some unknown bar in Saint Michael, Barbados, like forever.
Thanks to her friend who took the pain to recommend Rihanna to Evan Rogers’s wife who also arranged a personal audition with a reluctant Evan Rogers on the day of his departure back to New York city.
Luckily she made it through and will fly to New York along with her mother during the spring of 2003 for a one-on-one audition with Jay Z’s Def Jam Recordings. Jay Z would sign Rihanna on the spot after a 16 hour audition during which she sang her own songs “Pon de Replay” “SOS” and “Umbrella”.
She is one of the very few artists who had a debut album peak at the Top 10 of Billboard Hot 200 but Rihanna had a double delight when her second album “A Girl Like Me” released in 2006 did the same at the Billboard Hot 200 just like her debut album “Music of the Sun” released in 2005.
But to the eyes of a common man Rihanna was just another aspiring singer who is likely to fade away soon. That was until she released “Umbrella” from her third album “Good Girl Gone Bad” which hit the stores during the summer of 2007.
The song topped every chart across the globe and soon Rihanna would be a household name. But her critics had other ways of expressing her new found fame, which they attributed to Rihanna showing too much skin in all her songs for her album “Good Girl Gone Bad”.
Irrespective of her critics’ views and expressions, Rihanna would soon become one of the best selling artists of all time, with more than 50 million albums sold world wide till date.
And she would start touring USA and Europe to promote her thrid album along with it’s reloaded version “Good Girl Gone Bad” in early 2008 with hits like “Disturbia” “We Found Love” and “Diamonds” she would engross more money on tour than most other touring artists ever.
This was just the beginning as accoloades and awards showered in on Rihanna from every corner of the globe including 8 Grammy and American music awards and several Billboard Music and BRIT awards.
It’s a pity that Rihann’s personal life is not as successful as a musical career is.Getting abused by her long time boyfriend rapper Chris Brown did not have much of an impact on her musical career or so it seems to the outside world.
But it was becoming a day-to-day affair for Rihanna and the bruises were already showing in the red carpet events as well upclose pesonal interviews with her.
It was not her choice to let go of Chris Brown but all hell broke loose on Feb 12th 2009, when Chris Brown almost choked to death Rihanna for throwing out his rented Lamborghini car keys after she found out he was sleeping with another woman who was texting him on his mobile phone, when the fracas happened.
Chris Brown would have killed Rihanna if not for an alert Beverly Hills neighbour who called 9/11 after hearing a woman screaming from the top of her lungs.By the time the cops came Rihanna had passed out with cuts and bruises all over her face, nose, neck and a badly split upper lip.
Both were due to perform at the Grammy’s 2009 to be held on the forth coming Sunday but both had them cancelled with Chris Brown turning himself in, to the cops on the day he was supposed to perform at the Grammy’s 2009 but walked away with a $50,000 bail.
After almost a 5 year relationship Rihanna and Chris Brown split on February 2009 but of late in 2015 Rihanna is attracted to Chris Brown especially after the birth of his daughter Royalty with model and nursing student Nia Guzman.
Apart from Chris Brown, Rihanna has been linked with many superstars including French soccer player Karim Benzema, hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio and rumour has it that she was having an orgy with many players of world cup winning German football team to celebrate their victory.
Most of Rihanna’s Diamond world tour was a resounding success, partly because of her onstage acts which includes a lap dance she gave to a fan on one of her European concerts.
Her 2009 album “Rated R” which includes “Run This Town” a rap song by Kanye West in association with Jay Z won Rihanna a Grammy for the best rap song of that year.
The fact that Rihanna understood that she sounded better with a rapper after her success with kanye West prompted her to associate with Eminem for “Love the Way You Lie” which became No.1 in more than 21 countries in early 2010.
The very next year Rihanna would release her fifth album “Loud” which would peak at the No.1 spot in Billboard Hot 100 for the lead song “Only Girl (In the World)” This number will also win her a Grammy for the Best dance number of 2011.
She would organize a world tour promoting her “Loud” album which would eventually become one of the highest engrossing tours of 2011.At the end of the tour Rihanna would release her sixth album “Talk That Talk”, the album has her biggest hit to date “We Found Love”, would sell more than 100,000 downloads on the itunes music store in the first week of it’s release.
Ausralia, Cananda, New Zealand and U.K are some of the countries where “We Found Love” peaked at No.1 in Billboard Hot 100 international charts.Riding the huge success wave Rihanna tested the waters of Hollywood with her 2012 film “Battleship”.
The movie was a resounding hit with some in the industry even calling Rihanna, lady with Midas touch. The movie was a block buster in Asia and Europe especially South Korea and U.K netting $61 million excluding USA in it’s opening week.
Things got even better when she released “Unapologetic” her seventh album late 2012, , “Diamonds” the best single from that album topped the Billboard Top 100 charts in more than 23 countries with more than 120,000 digital copies sold in the itunes music store alone in it’s first week of release.
Rihanna once again organized a shortened tour to promote her album “Unapologetic” and a DVD was released later with the highlights from her world tour which was available as one of the free music downloads on her official website for a while.
At the end of the tour, once again rapper Eminem collabarated with Rihanna for the single “The Monster” which debuted at No.1 in U.K charts and peaked at No.5 in U.S and Canadian charts.
Rihanna is yet to name her eighth album but has already released a few numbers from her upcoming album produced by Kanye West including “Four Five Seconds” early 2014, rumour has it that there is some friction between Kanye West and Rihanna in naming the album as well as sharing the production costs involved.
