From their second studio album Affirmation, Savage Garden released "I Knew I loved You" on September 28, 1999, via the Columbia Record Label.
Written by Daniel Jones and Darren Hayes, the track hit top position on the US Billboard Hot 100 for more than three weeks.
The producers featured Daniel Jones and Walter Afanasieff. However, the music video blew the charts off when it was released on October 25, 2009, via YouTube and has received over 74 million views and counting.
It was set on the New York City Subway where Hayes stars alongside the American actress Kirsten Dunst as they play through various romantic and thrilling scenes throughout the track.
Worldwide, the track was a huge success for the two Australian artists with Darren Hayes being the lead vocalist and Daniel Jones playing guitar.
"I Knew I Loved You" played was played live at the American Music Award 2001, on NYE in Manchester, and in Taiwan on 2000 among other places.
In 2000, the track was certified platinum by RIAA after winning the Australia (ARIA) in 1999 for recording high sales and maintaining a top position on the recurrent charts.
For reasons unknown to the public, Savage Garden broke up in 2001 leaving the public with speculations. Some sources say Hayes always wanted to fly solo, as an artist... while Jones wasn’t ganging for the fame.
Instead, he opened his own production company and according to Hayes. The two artists have no intentions of a reunion. Darren is an out and proud gay man who is afraid of holding hands with his husband in public.
In 2000, Darren and Daniel were sued by their then former managers for terminating their agreement and hiring Woodruff.
Despite their splitting up, Hayes and Jones gave the world a love ballad that still airs today on major radio stations, Mobile phones, and stereos.
