Released October 1999,"Sandstorm" by Darude has become a sporting anthem with an extensive usage in sporting events live, televised, official or unofficial.
One really hopes Darude, the Finnish DJ does get his royalties as he is yet to recreate the magic of "Sandstorm" and is unfortunately labelled a one-hit wonder.
Nobody cared much about "Sandstorm" before FIFA 2014 world cup, where it's usage and sales skyrocketed to dizzy heights with most European, Asian and North American broadcasters preferring to use Darude's "Sandstorm" to promote 2014 FIFA World Cup.
"Sandstorm" initially gained it's momentum in 2007 when it was used as a background music for League of Legends, a multiplayer game.. especially during it's interactive live streaming/gaming sessions.
Darude was unlucky to have "Sandstorm" released before the YouTube era but still managed to sell a million copies of the hit single to date.
DJ Darude eventually confessed that his bookings tripled ever since "Sandstorm" was released and the first question the guests ask him is...when will he play "Sandstorm"?
