Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (#ad) is a 1994 Hollywood Comedy flick which was directed by Tom Shadyac and co-written by Jim Carrey and Jack Bernstein.
The film co-stars Jim Carrey, Courtney Cox, Sean Young, Tone Loc and Dan Marino. In this movie, Jim Carrey plays Ace Ventura, an animal detective who was given the task of finding Miami Dolphin’s mascot which has been abducted.
This was the movie which launched Jim Carrey into stardom and set things in motion for this superstar.
Even though the movie received mixed reviews, it was a huge box office success, grossing over $107 million worldwide for a limited budget of $15 million.
Story Begins
When your kitten or puppy goes missing, whom do you call? Ace Ventura! He is a low-rent detective who specializes in recovering kidnapped or lost animals.
In this movie, Snowflake the aquatic mascot of Miami Dolphins gets kidnapped. So Melissa Robinson, the team representative of Miami Dolphins hire Ace Ventura on the case to find out the missing mascot.
However, it is found out that Snowflake isn’t the only Miami Dolphin missing; several key members of the first team including Dan Marino also disappear.
From Zero to Hero
Ace Ventura is a detective who specializes in recovering tamed and captive animals. Despite his occasional successes, he struggles to pay rent and is considered a laughing stock of Miami-Dade Police Department because of his eccentricities.
Roger Podactor, Head of Operations of Miami Dolphins tragically and mysteriously falls to his death.
Lois Einhorn, Miami Police Lieutenant concludes that it was a suicide and is proved wrong by Ace who found out that it was a murder.
Ace later learns about Ray Finkle, a former player who missed the field goal kick at the end of Super Bown XVII and blamed Dan Marino for not taking the snap correctly.
After getting snubbed by Dan Marino, Finkle kidnaps him. While visiting Finkle’s mental hospital, Ace finds out that Finkle and Einhorn are indeed are the same person.
Ace follows Finkle to an abandoned yacht and finds Snowflake and Marino. After a little help from Marino, Ace reveals Finkle’s true identity and the police charge him with murder.
Final Verdict
Overall Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is a very entertaining movie.With Jim Carey's unique humor filled dialogues and an intriguing plot,the movie was popular among the general public and made a lot more profit than expected.
