Plot
Daniel Hillard, the protagonist of the story, is working as a freelance voice actor based in San Francisco. He is married to Miranda, played by Sally Field, and is a loving and doting father to his children named Natalie, Chris, and Lydia.
His wife, however, could no longer handle her husband’s eccentric nature and asked for a divorce. This was after he throws an out of the box birthday party for Chris despite the fact that she did not allow birthday parties due to Chris’ bad grades.
During the court hearing, Miranda was given the temporary custody of their children, while Danial was only allowed to visit during the weekend. However, the judge gave Daniel a change in earning the shared custody.
If he is able to find a steady and gainful employment and at the same time maintain his own residence that passes the standards of the court, the judge will consider the position of Danial in another 90 days.
Danial was able to find an apartment and even secure a job as a shipping clerk position at a television station, with the help of a court liaison.
Daniel was already working fine, but he wanted to spend more time with his children. One night, he heard from Miranda that she placed a classified ad of a housekeeper.
He realized that it could be his way to see the kids more often, Daniel phoned in and messes with the ad Miranda placed by using his voice acting prowess, portraying various candidates that show how terribly unqualified they are.
Finally, he takes on a persona of a British nanny, wherein it impressed Miranda so much that she was invited for an interview. Daniel rushed to his brother, asking for help on making him to an elderly woman. Daniel is then transformed into Mrs.Euphegenia Doubtfire. After the interview, Mrs.Doubtfire was hired on the spot.
The children weren’t that welcoming of Mrs.Doubtfire’s existence at first, but they eventually warmed up to her. As the story progresses, Mrs.Doubtfire became really close with the family, including Miranda.
Unfortunately for Daniel, he has grown really comfortable with the role he’s playing in. Also, Miranda doesn’t trust Daniel enough knowing that Mrs.Doubtfire is there, willing to support the entire family.
The plot gets more complicated when a former flame of Miranda comes into the scene, Stuart Dunmire played by Pierce Brosnan. He is enamored by the incredible attitude of Mrs.Doubtfire but sees Daniel as a loser.
Daniel hates Stuart so much that whenever situations include Stuart and Daniel into the family, especially with outings, it becomes even more awkward for them.
Mrs.Doubtfire’s true identity got discovered accidentally when Chris went into the bathroom and saw “her” urinating in a male position.
It brought Lydia into the scene, where there is some scrambling going on up until the point that Daniel had to reveal who Mrs.Doubtfire really is. The two children have agreed to keep everything a secret, especially from their little sister and their mother.
Daniel has a knack for playing in his day job position by playing with the figures in the television station. This gave him a chance to return to his old passion of voice acting when Jonathan Lundy, the station manager, watches over him perform various voices on the toy dinosaurs during his job’s down time.
He was really impressed with Daniel’s skills, he arranged a dinner meeting with Daniel so that they can discuss more business.
However, the day that they have settled the date is the same day that Miranda is having her birthday dinner, not to mention at the same time and on the same restaurant. What makes it worse is that Stuart also invited Mrs.Doubtfire to be in there, too.
Daniel can’t break the agreement, so he improvised and brought with a change of clothes where he changes into Mrs.Doubtfire for the birthday dinner and back to Daniel with Jonathan Lundy.
However, it got very complicated that he accidentally got to Lundy’s table dressed as Mrs.Doubtfire. He improvised that his appearance is an idea for Lundy’s project.
While the family was going to be served dinner, Daniel rushed to the bathroom to change, but then saw the food that was to be served to the family.
He coated Stuart’s food with cayenne pepper, which he is allergic to. When Stuart was choking on the food, Mrs.Doubtfire tries to help save him using the Heimlich move, but his mask fell off, which revealed his identity to Miranda. This horrified her, which further complicates Daniel’s chances to meet with the children as a decision in court.
Even with all his misfortune, he was still able to get good news as Mrs.Doubtfire became a local sensation and Lundy considered taking the show throughout the nation. Miranda and their children became loyal viewers.
Daniel was able to get more visiting time with his children when Miranda contested the court decision. Even if they were divorced, they were one big happy family.
