A Brilliant Start
The story starts from the summers of year 1963. A beautiful 17 year old Frances Baby Houseman (Jennifer Grey) is enjoying her vacation with her family comprising of his dad Jake played by Jerry Orbachand elder sister Lisa (Jane Brucker).
The story proceeds and shows how Baby develops an infatuation for Jonny Castle, a resort staff member whose character is portrayed by Patrick Swayze.
Further, the story unveils how the dynamics of relationship changes between the two leads - ‘Baby’ and ‘Johnny’.
Influential Storyline
The story is about a teenage girl Baby Houseman,who went to spend vacation with her rich and affluent family in the hills of the Catskill Mountains at Kellerman’s resort.
She is the younger of two daughters and his father Jake is a doctor and pal of Resort’s proprietor Max whose character is played by Jack Weston.
Baby is a student of economics and wants to join the Peace Corps. As Baby develops a crush for Johnny, the leader of resort’s working class entertainment staff.
Eventually, she gets befriended by Billy, who is Johnny’s cousin and get to know about secret after-hours parties and dirty dance sessions of the staff members.
Baby lies to her father to get money for the illegal abortion of Johnny’s dance partner Penny Johnson (Cynthia Rhodes).
She also fills in the position of Johnny’s dance partner. While taking the dance classes from him, they develop feeling for each other and eventually fall in love.
All comes apart when Penny falls ill after abortion and Jake came to know about illegal abortion and bans her daughter from any sort of association with Johnny and his friends.
It will be interesting to watch how Baby and Johnny reunite even after so many troubles and misunderstandings.
Verdict
Director, Emile Ardolino truly had the perfect recipe for a blockbuster which was perfectly used in filming ‘Dirty dancing’.
Although the movie was rated R, it does display the sensational dancing and sizzling romance weaved between Johnny and Baby, which young people liked a lot.
This movie is definitely much more than just love, intimacy and liberating power of dance.
No one really expected a huge monetary success with a gross collection of $215 million worldwide for a low budget film.
So,if you are inclined towards romantic drama, then it’s absolutely worth watching ‘Dirty Dancing’.
