Man of Steel is an American superhero flick featuring probably the most popular DC comics character; Superman. The movie is directed by Zack Snyder, written by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer and features stars like Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe.
Man of Steel, a remake of the Superman film series deals with the origin of protagonist Superman. With a running time of close to 2 and a half hour, Man of Steel was one of the lengthiest movies of 2013.It was a huge hit among the audience, making a 200% profit for a budget of $225 million, gaining more than $670 million in box office sales across the globe.
Since the word “Superman” was missing from the movie title, many movie buffs initially thought that the DC Comics had just created a new super hero, but as the story line leaked on the web, they figured out it’s obviously Superman, who is indeed the chief protagonist of the movie.
The 2013 version of the movie is a lot darker, convoluted and more violent than the one in original Superman series as Clark Kent seems to have forgotten his sense of humor.
Kent is a glum hunk who heroically defends his planet from all sorts of negative activities and the notion that not every good guy defending the week has an ulterior motive.
Krypton, the distant planet is facing an impending destruction and as per orders given by chief advisor Jor-El, the entire population has to be evacuated. General Zod leads an army against the Councillors realizing doom is inevitable so Jor-El steals the genetic codes sought by General Zod and infuses it into his son’s (Kal-El) DNA.
Jor-El sacrifices himself to help save his child before the planet explodes. Kal-El is raised by Kent family and as he grows up, he realizes his superhuman powers, his origin and his adoption by the Kent family.
Clark discovers the ship that brought him from Krypton and finds an artificial intelligence model of his father who tells him why he was sent to earth and what he has to do. General Zod and his army deduce the activities on the ship and start their journey towards the earth.
Clark and his human allies attack Zod’s troops while superman kills Zod. Clark makes peace with the US Army and then goes on to take the job of a freelance reporter for ‘The Daily Planet’.
This version of Superman is highly engrossing as evident from the box office sales numbers. Even though no remake can be compared with the excellence of the original one, this one keeps you on the edge of the seat with it’s no nonsense story line. Man of Steel is a must-watch movie and if you are a DC comics fan, then you’re gonna love this flick.
