Originally written and rejected for Rihanna’s album ANTI, Sia successfully released "Cheap Thrills" on February 11, 2016, from her album This Is Acting via the Inertial, Monkey Puzzle, and RCA record labels.
As a second single, a remix version featuring Sean Paul scored several nominations including for the 2017 Grammy Award: Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, 20167 MuchMusic Video Award for iHeartRadio International Artist of the Year and ARIA 2016 Music Award for Song of the Year among others.
It became a hit song in the United States with a number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the UK Single Chart.
On top of that, the track topped in various countries across Europe accompanied by a series of positive reviews from established critics including Brittany Spanos of Rolling Stone and Nick Levine of NME.
Sia appeared on several TV shows and concerts to perform the track live which included American Idol on March 2016, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in January 2016, and YouTube’s Brandcast event in New York on May 2016 among others.
On February 10, the music video was released as directed by Sia and Daniel Askill.
So far, the video has collected over 380 million YouTube views and it’s only fair to mention that the dance choreograph displayed from scene to scene has talent written all over it.
Having sold over 14 million copies worldwide, the song became an international hit that airs globally on stereos and radio stations.
On learning her nude photos were running wild on Instagram this year;Sia took a bold approach of publishing them herself leaving the shameless seller with nothing to gain.
Several sources have proven her resistance to fame which led to depression and alcohol/drug addiction.
In 2010, the artist had considered committing suicide until one of her friend’s phone call saved her.
