Kim Wilde - Close(#ad)
Released in mid-1988, Close was Kim Wilde`s sixth studio album to be released to her fans.
Produced by Tony Swain and Kim`s brother, Ricky Wilde, the album was widely thought to be one of the most balanced album Kim ever released.
It would also be the last album that Marty Wilde, Kim and Ricky`s father, would ever have co-writer credits.
The album is said to have a wide array of Pop music represented. From Dance and Ballard, to Rock and Mid tempo it registered as a favorite among many.
“Hey Mister Heartache” was the albums lead single and it featured Junior Giscombe as the backup vocals. This single was however overshadowed by its follow-up single “You Came”.
This second single was loved worldwide and quickly rose to top 10 position on the charts in many countries. It however narrowly missed the US Top 40 due to high competition from other singles.
Two more singles from the much anticipated album also managed to reach top 10 on the charts. “Never Trust a Stranger” and “Four Letter Word” seemed to rub off the fans in a good way as they continued to show their support for Kim`s music.
The fifth single released by Kim however didn’t receive much love from her fans.“Love in the Natural way” performed poorly compared to her previous releases.
Much of the success of the album could be attributed to the support of Michael Jackson who was a force to reckon with and set the tempo of pop music. He had offered Kim a support slot while on his European tour.
Thanks to the support from most of the Scandinavian countries, Austria and Germany, Close managed a top 10 slot in the UK and went on to become Kim`s best selling album.
It went Platinum in the UK and managed to sell more than 2 million units worldwide. Australia however didn’t show much love for the album as it only managed number 82 on the ARIA albums chart.
Kim Wilde – You Came - Lyrics
Release Date - July 4th, 1988
Album - Close
someone I know is staring at me
And when I look into her eyes
I see a girl that I used to be
I hardly recognise
Cos in the space of a year
I've watched the old me disappear
All of the things I once held precious
Just don't mean anything anymore
Cos suddenly
You came, and changed the way I feel
No one could love you more
Because you came and turned my life around
No one could take your place
I've never felt good with permanent things
Now I don't want anything to change
You can't imagine the joy you bring
My life won't be the same
And I'll be there when you call
I'll pick you up if you should fall
Cos I have never felt such inspiration
Nobody else ever gave me more because
You came, and changed the way I feel
No one could love you more
Because you came and turned my life around
No one could take your place
I watch you sleep in the still of the night
You look so pretty when you dream
So many people just go through life
Holding back, they don't say what they mean
But it's easy for me
Since you came
No one could love you more
Because you came and turned my life around
No one could take your place
You came, and changed the way I feel
No one could love you more
Because you came and turned my life around
No one could take your place
