Film Events:
During a maneuver in the Indian Ocean, two F - 14 Tomcat of the US Navy, embarked on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, meet two MiG - 28 with hostile behavior. As a result of the incident, Cougar gave up flying and the commander, who had planned toTop Gun, the elite school of the American naval air force, is forced to assign Maverick, and his navigator Goose, to improve the techniques of air combat.
At Fighter Town in Miramar, the crew quickly found themselves competing with Tom "Iceman" Kazanski and his navigator, Ron "Slider" Kerner, for first place in the standings. Bruised by the world's best instructors, commanders Heatherly "Jester" and Metcalf "Viper".

Shortly after the release of the film, the scenario of a sequel is developed. However, the project faces logistical issues and the stamp requested by Tom Cruise. In 2010, a rumor reports of Paramount's requests to Jerry Bruckheimer and Tony Scott to make this sequel. Christopher McQuarrie would have been contacted to write it.
In 2011, these rumors are supported by statements by Tom Cruise. In 2012, scouting is done for a shooting in 2013, with a screenplay written by Peter Craig. The project is strongly questioned following the death of director Tony Scott, the August 19th, 2012.
