Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is the profession obsessed lawyer whose only motto in life is to earn money through his profession with no consideration for business ethics, humanity, justice or even for his family.
This habit of his results in a broken marriage apart from causing a deep rift with his young son Max (Justin Cooper).
On his 8th birthday, while blowing out the candles, Max makes a wish that his Dad would spend a whole day without telling a lie.
Suddenly Fletcher finds himself incapable of lying even at his profession for a high profile divorce case for a client with deep pockets.
Plot
Fletcher Reede is a licensed lawyer who never hesitates to tell lies, shout and act crazy in the Courtroom to win the case for his clients, the bad guys with deep pockets.
Reede never fights for justice, the poor and the innocent, but rather frames the innocent getting them behind the bars, for the love of money and success.
He often exaggerates the stories in the court room, impresses the judge with his shrewd acting skills, eventually getting the judgement in his favour.
His habit of telling lies often lands him in trouble, his wife eventually divorces him and his son Max despises his father because of his profession and his predatory behavior.
On his 8th birthday, Max makes a wish that his Dad could go on for 24 hours without telling a single lie. Suddenly Fletcher is unable to tell a lie which makes things incredibly awkward for him.
